2015 LUXURY COFFEE ROASTER OF THE YEAR
CUP OF LUXURY
How They Did It
What does it take to
make it to the top as a luxury coffee roaster? To answer this we caught up
with Celebrity Coffee Chef, eleven-year veteran in luxury coffee and Cup of
Luxury's owner, Bryan-David Scott. "Uncompromising dedication to
excellence, offering proven luxury class coffee beans, impeccable consistent
roast profiles, creativity in custom blends, loving people, having great vision
and passion for my craft," was his unsurprising but inspiring answer.
To be recognized globally as our Roaster of the Year there are four categories in which coffees compete including appearance, aroma, taste and finish. Cup of Luxury has proven again that not all coffees are created equal."
Many people are unaware that less than 20% of all coffees
harvested in the world qualify as specialty grade. Of this 20%, luxury coffees
represent the finest of 1%. Luxury Coffee Council panel members consider Cup of
Luxury's coffees to be the very best in the world; in percentages the top .1%.
Al Greene, a former Navy fighter pilot and retired Delta
Airlines pilot described his first encounter with Cup of Luxyry. "I
recently had the pleasure of savoring the finest coffee I ever experienced. I
have been an enthusiast of superior coffees for decades. I believe my interest
in fine coffee blossomed to a passion one rainy day at The Café Central in
Vienna (Opened in 1876 and still at the same location at Herrengasse 14, if you
find yourself in the neighborhood and care to pass a rainy afternoon.
The first impression when one opens one of those beautiful
red bags is the aroma. The aroma of quality freshly roasted beans is
unmistakable. The aroma from the bag of ‘Simply Decadent’ filled my kitchen.
The aroma was that of Café Central.
It is my custom to examine the beans before grinding. There
are a plethora of common flaws in roasted beans. Quakers, the name given to unripe beans with a wrinkled
surface, can generally be found in small numbers in most all (even high
quality) coffees (worth looking for and removing as they add bitter notes) were
totally absent in all of Cup of Luxury's coffees. There were also no ‘withered
‘ beans, (typically a result of drought or poor husbandry) and no pits or
pieces (beans crushed during processing). Simply stated, the beans were all
perfect. I do not believe I have ever found zero flaws in any of the coffees I
have examined. Grinding for my French
Press released more delicious
aroma. The first sip was again
reminiscent of Café Central. The Simply Decadent is rich and dark, almost
smoky, awakening the palate like a fine aged red wine. I went on to open and
sample the Découverte, and the Black Label. All are worthy of the five-stars /
100 point rating they are given.
The last bag I opened was Black Label. I found it to be
equally as impressive, with a unique robust quality.
All in all, my afternoon opening and brewing these coffees was like that afternoon in
Vienna, without the waiting in line at the security check point followed by an
all night flight. The Viennese Coffee house has been described as a place where
an experience is consumed, but only the coffee is found on the bill. Cup of
Luxury could be described in the same words. In Vienna, the ‘go cup’ is still a
vague anathema.
I recommend adopting that attitude. Cup of Luxury is to be
savored, not rushed. Thank you Bryan-David, for making this coffee experience
available to us!"
We quite agree with Mr. Greene.
Cup of Luxury coffees have been served to celebrities,
dignitaries, heads of state, professional athletes, broadcast executives,
TV/film executives, major corporate executives and others among the rich and
famous. This is certainly understandable considering that many of us at this
level demand the very best in food and beverage.
Did you know that Chef Bryan-David Scott infuses Cup of
Luxury's prized coffees into his dishes? It is my delight to tell fans of
luxury coffee that this assiduous man so fervently dedicated to handcrafted
excellence in food, luxury coffee and specialty drinks can with ease satisfy
your cravings.
I had the pleasure of dining with the Chef and his wife,
Amy, while visiting Sonoma. He prepared an aged bourbon soaked ribeye steak
dusted with Cup of Luxury's famous Black Label, Piri Piri, lemon zest, crushed
sea salt, and an amazing spiced espresso cream sauce that took my palate to a
new level of dining pleasure known appropriately -- or inappropriately as a
foodgasm. Eating what this Chef prepares is sheer food bliss. Drinking his line
of premium wines produced in Napa and Sonoma was paradise, but wrapping my
experience eating his caramel and rum baked apples served with Cup of Luxury's
Black Label coffee took me to heaven.
100 Points - This
magnificent coffee opens with vibrant dark berry, black cherry and dark
chocolate aromas that lead into the signature smoothness, bright acidity and
wonderful mouthfeel that characterizes Cup of Luxury's coffees. The aroma is
followed by rich dark berry and dark chocolate flavors with enticing hints of Spanish
vanilla and mild spice. On the palate, the coffee has a pleasant full mouthfeel
with silky tannins and a smooth texture. Enjoy this estate-grown coffee in the
morning, late afternoon or evening. Pairs beautifully with savory and sweet
dishes.

Congratulations to you Chef Bryan-David and your family. You
deserve to be celebrated! Thank you for giving our world the gift of your
talent, exquisite food, amazing specialty drinks, and luxury coffee truly
worthy to be talked about. Ranked #1 in the world. You have made history, sir.
